After a hefty band/management debate about World Domination, Coltrane-loving manager Charley Gray took great umbrage when I called him an "old jazzer". He sent me this telegram later. (A telegram, kids, was like an email. Only you wrote it on a piece of paper. Then someone at the post office typed it into a machine that sent it along the telegraph wires. Then it got printed at the other end. Then someone glued the bits of typed paper on a bit of yellow paper. Then a boy on a bicycle delivered it breathlessly to your front door. Sometimes the whole process could take less than a day.) |
