In the 1950s and 1960s Hammond vigorously promoted their instruments to the domestic market. They produced a monthly magazine which featured tutorials, songs, hymns, player profiles and insights into the Hammond company. Their advertisements appeared in a diverse range of publications, from Life to Playboy, and in themselves are a charming time-capsule of American life. To a small boy in far away New Zealand there was a world of exotica in the images of suit-and-tie gents and coiffed ladies, black-framed spectacles and white loafers, rock-wall fireplaces and picture windows, and kids in striped t-shirts and long trousers.
